Pinot Noir, the grape behind Burgundy wine, is the ultimate food-pairing wine. Whether it be a hearty red meat dish or light seafood/pasta dish, chances are Pinot Noir will pair well with it. This also makes Pinot Noir wine one of the best red wines for gifting at dinner parties!
The Pinot Noir grape thrives in cooler climates such as those where it originated in Burgundy. Wine lovers appreciate its versatility - it's one of the few wines that's both approachable as a young wine and complex and delicious as it ages. The best red wines made from Pinot Noir grapes are typically found in Burgundy, California, and Oregon, but you'll find examples of this wine from all over the world.

WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022 This violet-scented Pinot Noir is marked by plump, mouth-drenching black-cherry and plum flavors edged by licks of sweet spice and vanilla. Framed by fine, glossy tannins and a juicy spine of acidity, this immediately welcoming wine is particularly joyous young but will likely hold well through 2027. (Anna Lee C. WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022 Salty, mineral freshness extends from nose to finish in this ripe, broad-shouldered wine. Red-cherry and plum flavors are fleshy and concentrated on the palate, lifted by a tang of cranberry acidity and a pleasantly leafy, herbal finish. Soft in tannins and kissed with sweet spice, the wine is ready now but will likely to hold through 2029. (Anna Lee C. RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021 Once again one of the highlights of the range, the 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode (Domaine Louis Jadot) wafts from the glass with notes of cassis, plums, dark chocolate, loamy soil and spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, it’s elegantly muscular, with fine depth and lively acids.VN90+90–92 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020 The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru was more closed than the Clos des Guettes on the nose, presenting darker fruit tinged with iodine and light iris petals. Fine delineation. The palate is well balanced with supple tannins, fine grip and edginess and a subtle white pepper and clove note toward the finish. This is a very well-crafted Savigny that should drink well for 10–15 years.
RP90+90+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022 The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles Vignes represents another fine rendition of this remarkably consistent cuvée. Unfurling in the glass with notes of cherries, red berries, warm spices and sweet soil tones, it’s medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with powdery tannins and a long, sapid finish. Given its structure and substance, it will amply reward at least a few years’ patience. (William Kelley)

SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2023 Intense and tightly wound, this red is firmly structured and energetic, featuring cherry, strawberry, stone and spice flavors, with the acidity and tannins lending support for future evolution. All the components are there, this just needs a few years to knit together. Best from 2027 through 2045. 258 cases made, 129 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)VN94+94–96 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021 The 2020 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru is often one of Jadot’s strongest cards amongst the Côte de Beaune reds and this is no different. It has a captivating bouquet with earthy red fruit, graphite, just a faint hint of menthol that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced with a dash of white pepper towards the sustained finish. It will require several years in bottle to show its best, but it will be worth waiting for. (Neal Martin)RP93+93–95 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022 The 2020 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is excellent, mingling aromas of cherries and raspberries with notions of raw cocoa, orange rind, warm spices and smoke. Full-bodied, velvety and layered, it’s deep and concentrated, with powdery tannins, bright acids and a long, resonant finish. (William Kelley)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021 The 2019 Pernand-Vergelesses Les Fichots 1er Cru has ample red cherry and raspberry fruit on the nose, touches of sous-bois and tobacco emerging with aeration. The palate is soft and fleshy, a fine bead of acidity, gaining depth towards the finish with a touch of black pepper lingering on the aftertaste. You could broach this now or drink over the next five years.
RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Jan 2022 The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves (Domaine Gagey) is especially successful this year, wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berry fruit, orange rind, peonies and rich spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it’s deep and serious, with ripe tannins and lively acids. While it’s appropriately youthfully structured, it doesn’t display any of the austerity one sometimes finds in this particular bottling. (William Kelley)
RP89+89–91 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2015 The 2014 Savigny les Beaune 1Er Cru Clos des Guettes has more roundness on the nose than Jadot’s other 2014 Savignys — a little more plumpness with strawberry and Morello scents developing. The palate is fleshy on the entry with good weight, a fine line of acidity, fine tannin, very focused with a tensile, quite minerally finish that is very satisfying. This comes highly recommended.VN87+87–88 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2016 Healthy bright red. Sexy aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry, spices and underbrush. On the palate, the red berry and menthol flavors show a distinct soil-driven salinity and good texture. More tannic than the Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières but has good supporting stuffing.
VN91+91–93 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2021 The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru is matured in 25% new oak. It has a very perfumed bouquet with pressed rose petals infusing the red berry fruit, hints of cranberry and bergamot emerging with time, fine mineralité too. The palate is medium-bodied with tart red cherries, crushed strawberry and light orange zest notes, the acidity lending real bite and energy towards the finish. Bon vin! (Neal Martin)
