Shop for Wines from New York

New York wine has come a long way from exclusively being made from native grape varieties such as Catawba, Concord, and Niagara, to the vinifera revolution beginning in the 1950’s led by pioneer Dr. Konstantin Frank. Today, New York wines of many varieties receive critical acclaim from many publications such as Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and Wine & Spirits.

The main areas of concentration of the New York wine industry tends to be in four geographical areas: The Finger Lakes, Long Island, Chautauqua/Lake Erie, and The Niagara Escarpment. The Niagara Escarpment is a particularly new and successful home to great New York vineyards. This region along the Niagara Frontier and close to Lake Ontario has been earning rave reviews from top wine critics in recent years.

  2. Wölffer Estate Rosé

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#57418

    RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th May 2022
The 2021 Rosé (colloquially known as the Estate Rosé, although "Estate" is not on the label) is a blend of 53% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, and 13% Chardonnay, plus Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir equally dividing the rest. It is near bone dry and comes in at 12.8% alcohol. This report shows a lot of erratic performances in pinks in the difficult 2021 vintage, but the stalwarts are basically getting it right. This is another fine performance in the “basic” Rosé this year, not missing a beat. It has elegance, persistence, good concentration, fine flavor and touch of complexity from the kitchen-sink blend. Under screw cap, this should also hold for a few years, but that’s not exactly the point here. As top pinks go, this is also very reasonably priced. Bargain hunters take note. This is never my favorite of the winery’s endless number of pinks, but it is arguably the best intersection of quality and price. For those who appreciate elegance, it is also one of the more understated. There were 31,500 cases produced.

  6. Dr. Konstantin Frank Semi-Dry Riesling

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#55496

    WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2023
Reminiscent of a cider press, this is rich and aromatic, the honey-flecked orchard fruit accompanied by candied peach and pineapple, with whispers of something more floral and waxy. Tangy, lemony acidity lifts the creamy texture in the mouth, those stone-fruit and cider-y notes flowing to the finish. There’s certainly sweetness, but it doesn’t dominate. Drink now with a salty blue cheese to balance the confection. (Christina Pickard)

Vibrantly youthful with plenty of nectarine fruit and a touch of strawberry, this is both juicy and refreshing. Surprisingly long and harmonious finish. Drink now. Screw cap.
    WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 8/1/2022
Brisk aromas of crushed stone and crushed strawberry blend with a hint of thyme on the nose. It’s light and juicy on the palate, with perky red berry flavors matched by gentle peppery herb accents. It ends fruity and lifted, with a delicate touch of fuzzy tannins.

  8. Dr. Konstantin Frank Dry Riesling

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#55142

    JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, August 9, 2022
A lot of floral delicacy and lemon and lime zest, but also some good white-peach fruit behind those high notes. Good depth on the mid-palate for the challenging vintage, with some wet-stone character at the long, crisp finish. Made from fruit grown on Kueka Lake and Seneca Lake. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2023
Delicately crafted from one of the Finger Lakes’s best known producers, this opens with a lifted aromas of white peach, lemon-lime and florals, with a honeyed underbelly. The palate is dry with a lofty line of laser-like, lemony acidity and a slightly chalky texture. Crying out flavorful fish dishes like spicy fish tacos or Thai red curry. (Christina Pickard)
    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th May 2022
The 2021 Dry Riesling comes in with eight grams per liter of residual sugar, 7.9 of total acidity and 12% alcohol. I haven’t been liking a lot of what I’m seeing from this vintage (to be sure, there haven’t been a lot of examples yet), but this seems awfully nice. Fresh, balanced and lively, this adds a juicy, tense finish, and the fruit occasionally asserts itself. It’s elegant in the mid-palate, dancing across the tongue. I’ll be interested to see if this can hold form or improve in a couple of years, but right now it is a fine choice at a nice price point. Of course, it is a serious Dry Riesling. If you like them sweeter or fruitier, this is not for you. (Mark Squires)

The golden color hints at the richness to come. It’s intensely perfumed with notes of honey, melted butter and pineapple turnover cake. The palate is rich and unctuous, but it never loses its shape, thanks to a laser-like line of acidity, which distracts from the intense sweetness in all the best ways. (Christina Pickard)
