Shop Our Selection of Napa Valley Wines

Napa Valley wines are without question the most famous and important wines from the United States, even though the Napa Valley wine region is actually one of the smallest in the world. Some of the most iconic and recognizable Napa Valley Wineries include Beaulieu Vineyards, Beringer, Cliff Lede, Dominus, Hess, Robert Mondavi Winery, Opus One, and Sterling.

While Napa Valley itself is an appellation there are also sixteen sub-appellations or American Viticultural Areas (AVAs). The climate and terrain of these sub-appellations — including Los Carneros, St. Helena, Stags Leap District, and others — are actually quite diverse, ranging from rugged mountains to cooler coastal influences, and many nuances in-between.

Most Napa wine is made with premium varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Samantha’s is made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 21 months in 86% new French oak. This is a vineyard selection blend usually harvested slightly later. Very deep purple-black in color, it leaps from the glass with vibrant cassis, blackberry pie and preserved plums scents with nuances of mocha, pencil shavings, menthol, lilacs and cloves plus a touch of chargrilled meat. The medium to full-bodied palate is super intense with layer upon layer of black fruits, savory and floral notions and a rock-solid foundation of grainy tannins, finishing very long and very minerally. 698 cases produced.
    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2018
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Samantha’s is magnificent. Powerful and sumptuous, with stunning inner perfume and sweetness, the 2016 is simply thrilling to taste. Bittersweet chocolate, plum, black cherry, lavender, spice and new leather take on added shades of richness and texture in this towering, explosive Cabernet Sauvignon. Swaths of tannin build as this striking wine gains volume and intensity with air. In a word: superb!

The 2016 Proprietary Red Wine Sugarloaf Mountain is fresh, nuanced and full of potential. The aromatics and fruit are beautifully delineated, while bright acidity gives the wine vibrancy and focus. The 2016 is shaping up to be a real jewel of a wine.

  5. Bond Vecina

    Napa Valley Red Wine
    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#51850

    RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Sep 2019
Vecina vineyard is located in the western foothills of Oakville, just to the south-east of the winery (up on Oakville Grade). Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Vecina slips sensuously out of the glass with gorgeous black cherries, kirsch, wild blueberries and blackcurrant pastilles notes plus suggestions of bouquet garni, pencil lead, tilled earth and underbrush. Full-bodied, taut and packed with ripe, expressive, exquisitely accented black and blue fruits, it has loads of earthy sparks and a compelling fine-grained nature to the firm texture, finishing long and layered. This bright, energetic, incredibly nuanced beauty is built like a brick house and, while approachable in youth, is easily a 50-year wine. I therefore urge readers to wait at least 5–7 years before opening to allow for the myriad of subtle nuances to emerge and offer that “WOW” experience that will reward patience.
    JS9999 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, May 3, 2019
Blackberry, black-truffle, sliced-mushroom and dried-beef aromas. Full-bodied, broad shouldered and amazingly structured and layered. Dense, extremely long and intense. It’s seamless and goes on for minutes. Great wine. Give it time to give you even more. Better after 2022.
    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2020
The 2016 Vecina is the most tannic and brooding of the wines, as it so often is. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of black cherry, chocolate, new leather, licorice, spice and menthol. I would cellar the 2016 for at least few years to shed some of its youthful bombastic intensity. There is certainly no shortage of character or complexity. As always, Vecina emerges from choice parcels within Vine Hill Ranch.
    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 15, 2020
Intense from the get-go, featuring dark currant and steeped plum fruit, wrapped in licorice root, warm gravel and espresso cream notes. The long, muscular finish smolders, with juniper and tobacco elements keeping pace with the fruit. Seriously built. Best from 2022 through 2038. 650 cases made.

  6. Heitz Cellar Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#58518

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha’s Vineyard barely hints at eucalyptus on the nose, with much more emphasis given to black cherries and cassis. This is full-bodied and rich, nicely balancing richness and texture against linear shape and focus and picking up hints of blueberries and spice on the long, mouthwatering finish. With 112 barrels having been bottled, there’s a fair bit of this wine to go around, if one can afford it. (Joe Czerwinski)
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2021
This throws off an overt and alluring mint aroma, while sweet bay leaf, violet, damson plum, red tea and steeped griotte notes all glide through together, carried by remarkably fine-grained tannins. Ends with a gentle echo of mint on the finish, while a subtle minerality chimes through as well. A stylish and suave wine, with plenty of charm now, but also pristine balance for cellaring. Best from 2022 through 2038. 2,500 cases made. (James Molesworth)

  7. Lail Vineyards J. Daniel Cuvée

    Cabernet Sauvignon
    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#50167

    RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2018
One-hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in 75% new French oak, the 2016 J Daniel Cuvee is deep garnet-purple in color and offers up exuberant notes of crème de cassis, chocolate-covered cherries, wild blueberries, violets and unsmoked cigars with touches of garrigue, fragrant earth, powdered cinnamon, black olives and tree bark. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house, with a solid frame of firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness supporting the taut, muscular fruit, finishing long and minerally. 950 cases produced.
    JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, May 3, 2019
Love the green olives, blackberries and sweet tobacco. Hints of walnuts and wet earth. Full-bodied yet reserved and very tight with beautiful richness and focus. Dense and exciting. A blend of Oakville and Howell Mountain. Great Napa cab. Try after 2022.
    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - May 2019
Saturated dark ruby. Very pure but reticent aromas of blackberry, licorice, spices and minerals, complicated by whiffs of violet and leather and a faint medicinal quality. Utterly silky, sweet and fresh on the palate, showing near-perfect balance from the outset. This wonderfully generous fruit bomb is still an infant and yet is a treat to taste today owing to its compelling sweetness and glossy texture. Hints of graphite and warm loam add interest as the wine opens in the glass. Robin Lail describes this wine as “a combination of the opulence of the 2012 and the structure of the ’13,” while general manager Michael Updegraff says it’s “like Cabernet candy.” Finishes with substantial fine-grained, horizontal tannins and outstanding breadth and length. A brilliant wine for a drought year; in fact, Lail’s string of J. Daniel releases from California’s five years of drought (2012 through 2016) represent a new level of excellence for this winery.

  8. Lokoya Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#52982

    JD9999 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2019
Also borderline perfection, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District offers more conifer and pine forest notes as well as vivid blueberry fruits, a full-bodied, intense, layered mouthfeel, thrilling elegance, and a big finish. My note on this one was sprinkled with a few expletives and this wine has everything you could want from Cabernet Sauvignon. As with the other 2016s from Chris, 2–4 years of bottle age are recommended. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2018
Deep garnet-purple colored and made up of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain gives up tantalizing notes of licorice, chocolate box and spearmint over a core of crushed blackcurrants, blackberries and kirsch plus wafts of roses and fertile loam. Full-bodied, firm and oh-so-minerally in the mouth, it has a solid structure of grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing on a lingering earthy note. 825 cases produced.
    VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - Dec 2018
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon (Spring Mountain) is supple, silky and remarkably pure, with striking nuance to match its soft contours and plush fruit. Resonant and enveloping, with terrific depth, the 2016 is striking today. The Spring Mountain is the most open and inviting of the Lokoya Cabernets, but ideally readers should give it a few years in the cellar, which will allow the full range of aromatics to develop.

  9. Ovid Hexameter

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#50715

    JD9999 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2019
In the same ballpark as the 2015, the 2016 Hexameter (55% Cabernet Franc, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, and a splash of Merlot) is similarly inky colored and has heavenly notes of black raspberries, cassis, violets, and forest floor. This full-bodied, absolutely riveting 2016 has ultra-fine tannins, is perfectly balanced, no hard edges, and a purity of fruit that’s hard to describe. It’s another legendary wine from this team. Give bottles another 2–3 years and it will knock your socks off over the following 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 13th Dec 2018
Blended of 55% Cabernet Franc, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Hexameter leaps from the glass with bold Black Forest cake, cassis and redcurrant jelly scents with suggestions of candied violets, pencil lead, oolong tea and cumin seed with a touch of cigar box. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals loads of red and black fruit layers beautifully laced with exotic spices and floral fragrances, framed by super ripe, super fine-grained tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long.
    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2018
The 2016 Hexameter, Ovid’s Cabernet Franc-based wine, is superb. Bright, focused and beautifully sculpted, the 2016 has a lot going on. Bright red cherry, raspberry, mocha, mint and wild flowers and espresso soar out of the glass. Medium in body and gracious, the 2016 screams with varietal Franc and Pritchard Hill character.
    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2020
This features a strong tobacco leaf note amid a hefty core of steeped currant, blackberry and plum fruit flavors. Shows solid depth, with a long tug of warm loam and espresso cream through the finish, while the fruit keeps pace. A big wine, exhibiting serious buried minerality. Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2022 through 2038. 570 cases made.

  10. Ovid Napa Valley

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#50714

    RP9999 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 13th Dec 2018
Blended of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Proprietary Red Wine gives bright, vivacious scents of crushed red and black cherries, blackcurrants and warm plums with vibrant wafts of lilacs, powdered cinnamon, black pepper and fenugreek plus hints of wild sage and iron ore. Medium to full-bodied with a very firm structure of wonderfully ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, it has a taut, muscular fruit profile laced with loads of energetic red and black fruit sparks with a very long, spicy finish. Wow!
    JD9898 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2019
Lastly, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a vintage described as similar to 2015, only with a normal-sized crop. This inky colored beauty has some similarities to the 2014 with its perfectly balanced, elegant, yet powerful style. Made from 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, an incredible display of finesse paired to power, remarkable sweetness of fruit, and a finish that leaves you looking for another sip. Another heavenly wine from this estate, I’d put this in the list of desert island wines for yours truly. (Jeb Dunnuck)
    VN97+97+ pts. - Vinous - Dec 2018
The 2016 Ovid is another superb wine from Ovid. Black cherry, mocha, spice, leather and menthol are all beautifully delineated. Powerful and yet light on its feet, the Ovid shows many of the qualities that make wines off this Pritchard Hill estate so compelling. I can’t wait to see how this ages.
    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2020
Sleek and ripe up front, with warm cassis and plum puree notes leading the way, turning broader and more muscular through the finish, where red licorice, fruitcake and tar flavors fill in. Should unwind slowly, as a strong buried iron detail emerges here as well. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2022 through 2037. 910 cases made.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Kaliholmanok Kicu Me Vineyard (100% Cabernet) has a deep garnet-purple color and gives up notions of kirsch, blueberry compote and crème de cassis with hints of sautéed herbs, underbrush and potpourri. VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2018
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Kaliholmanok, from Ballard Vineyard on Spring Mountain, is one of the more expressive wines in this range. Beautifully perfumed and silky, with terrific persistence, the 2016 is all class. Sweet red fruit, hard candy, mint and dried flowers are laced together in this super-expressive Cabernet. 2016 / 750 ml. | Item#48518

    JD9898 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2019
From a famous valley floor site that’s always one of the first to ripen, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon GIII Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard (100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 90% new French oak) offers incredible purity and finesse as well as a kaleidoscope of crème de cassis, exotic flowers, graphite, and forest floor. It’s deep, has building, sweet tannins, no hard edges, and again, this fabulous purity and floral character that develops with time in the glass. It will benefit from short-term cellaring and should evolve for three decades. My money is on it being the finest version of this cuvée ever made. (Jeb Dunnuck)

  13. Screaming Eagle The Flight

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#50839

    VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2018
The 2016 The Flight is gorgeous. Dark, brooding and closed in on itself, the 2016 is going to need a number of years to be at its very best, but it is incredibly beguiling today. Plum, black cherry, lavender, blood orange menthol, and a host of more mineral-driven notes punctuate this super-expressive wine. This is a decidedly tannic and powerful edition of The Flight. I can’t wait to see how it ages. Bottled just six weeks before this tasting, the 2016 appears to have a very bright future. Time in the glass brings out some of the softer edges that will almost surely emerge with cellaring. The Flight is built on a core of older Merlot vines from the southeast corner of the estate. It is an absolutely riveting wine from Screaming Eagle.
    RP97+97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 16th May 2019
Composed roughly of two-thirds Merlot with 5% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, the medium to deep colored 2016 The Flight opens with bold, expressive notions of wild blueberries, warm plums and boysenberries with touches of black raspberries, spice cake, violets, dark chocolate and potpourri with a hint of menthol. Full-bodied, rich, spicy and jam-packed with energy, it has beautifully plush tannins texturing the multilayered blue and black fruits, delivering a very long, perfumed finish.
    JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2019
The 2016 The Flight is another beauty, and it’s slightly more elegant and balanced, as well as pure, than the 2015. A blend of 66% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, this vibrant purple-colored effort offers a huge perfume of blue fruits, violets, and incense that develops with time in the glass. It’s medium to full-bodied, seamless, and incredibly elegant, yet has depth, intensity, and length. (Jeb Dunnuck)
