While the woven basket that surrounds that bottle of Chianti is iconic, it is by no means the only Italian wine worth having with pasta and meatballs. Italian wines are excellent because their low acidity and lush body increase the ease with which they pair with any kind of food. The general rule is that any meal with a red sauce can match with an Italian red wine, but Italian white wines also make excellent pairings with chicken, fish, and even pizza.
Italy boasts some of the world's oldest vineyards, as well as some of the most dignified and respected estates in the wine world. Whether you're shopping for a bright, juicy Montepulciano to drink with pizza or a refined, aged Barolo for a five-star night, WineMadeEasy.com is your source for Italian wine at great prices.

JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, October 5, 2021 Aromas of plums, black cherries, blackberries, tomato leaf, dried herb and spice box. Medium-to full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Rich and fleshy on the palate with a lots of black fruit. Flavorful finish. Try from 2023.SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2021 There’s depth to the concentrated black cherry and blackberry fruit, shaded by vanilla, earth and graphite notes. Dense and muscular, with a long finish. Sangioveto, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2023 through 2028. 15,000 cases made, 7,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2022 The 2019 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva is dark and moody in the glass, opening slow with a smoldering mix of red currants, grilled herbs and flowery underbrush. It’s texturally deep and pliant, showcasing polished ripe red and hints of blue fruit that are carried effortlessly across a core of juicy acidity. The 2019 tapers off with a subtle tug of fine tannin and sweet raspberry tones that leave a lasting impression. (Eric Guido)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 The 2019 Lagone is a soft, fruity Maremma red to drink now and over the next handful of years. A burst of sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon, rose petal and new leather lends energy to this tasty, mid-weight red. Best of all, the 2019 should be a terrific value. (Antonio Galloni)
JD93+93–96 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023 The 2019 Barolo Berri was tasted from two barrels, one of which utilized whole bunches in the fermentation. While both offered freshness and purity, the second barrel offered more significant spice in its profile, with more depth of fruit, and is firmly structured at this stage. The components are compelling and should make for a wonderful finished blend in a few years’ time. (Audrey Frick)VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023 The 2019 Barolo Berri is tightly wound and austere in the early going. Crushed red berry fruit, iron, dried herbs and white pepper give the Berri a striking aromatic top register. The tannins are a bit nervy, though, so a few years in bottle are warranted. Frost decimated the crop at Torriglione, which is why this wine (typically the Barolo del Comune di La Morra) is Berri in 2019. To be exact, there is 4% Torriglione, as that was the wine used for topping. (Antonio Galloni)
RP91+91+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th May 2020 The youthful, flashy exuberance of this wine is impossible to miss. The Tua Rita 2019 Rosso dei Notri offers pronounced primary fruit that bursts out of the glass with immediate directness and frankness. This is a blend of 30% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah and 20% Merlot. Although it’s not declared, there’s a tiny touch of Cabernet Franc in there as well that grounds the wine with an extra point of darkness and richness. Most of the blending components do not see oak, but those that do (like the Merlot) go through a brief three months in declassified barrique (hand-downs from Tua Rita’s top wines). This estate practices a clever pre-harvest harvest. Some of the fruit from across the various parcels is harvested about 10 days earlier. That fruit, with its extra freshness and acidic brightness, goes into this wine. Indeed, some 150,000 bottles are produced, so this is the bread-and-butter bottle from the estate. The best clusters are left on the vines to mature fully before the second harvest, and that fruit goes into Tua Rita’s benchmarks. Doing two harvests in this manner preserves the character of the best fruit on the one hand and creates this entry-level offering on the other. This easy red is a great match to a platter of Italian salumi and cheeses. This wine will be released in June 2020, and it offers terrific value.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 The 2019 La Massa is a very pretty wine. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit, mint, chalk and spice accents are all nicely delineated. There’s terrific energy driving the 2019. Once again, Giampaolo Motta’s Sangiovese-based blend delivers the goods. (Antonio Galloni)JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, August 8, 2022 This has aromas of sour cherries, currants, lemon leaves and olive stones. It’s juicy and bright with a medium body and fine tannins. Savory, focused and tight finish. Better from 2023.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022 The 2019 Al Passo is rich, ample and generous. Healthy dollops of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon turbocharge Sangiovese, adding depth and structure. Red-fleshed Sangiovese fruit emerges over time. The 2019 is deep and quite fleshy, but it also has a good deal of brightness to balance some of its more overt leanings. (Antonio Galloni)SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2022 An expressive, fruity style, this red features cherry, raspberry, plum, floral and wild herb aromas and flavors. Dense and lively, with a lingering aftertaste of red fruit and herbs. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2023 through 2036. 10,000 cases made, 7,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023 It’s hard to put the glass down while exploring the depths of raspberry compote, dried orange peels, roses, exotic spice and a dusting of cocoa that form the absolutely stunning bouquet of the 2019 Carmignano Riserva Piaggia. This is pure elegance. It’s silky and refined as liquid violet florals and ripe red and black fruits easily rush across the palate. Its vibrant acidity maintains exceptional finesse despite the massive primary concentration slowly taking hold. The 2019 finishes long with a coating of sweet tannins and balsamic-tinged cherry. The balance here is amazing, which might trick readers into finishing their bottles far too quickly, but trust me, the best is truly yet to come. This is Rock Star juice. (Eric Guido)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021 The 2019 Chianti is fabulous. Bright, punchy and full of Sangiovese character, Mori’s Chianti pulses with energy from start to finish. Lively acids perk up a core of crushed red berry and floral flavors. The 2019 is one of the very finest editions I can remember tasting. Don’t miss it.
