France is blessed as both a cool-climate producer of wines in regions such as Burgundy, Champagne, Loire Valley, and Alsace where grapes like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling thrive, while the warmer ocean-influenced climate of Bordeaux allows for near perfect ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in most years.
