It finishes with sweetness that is balanced by the ample acidity.RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016 Tasted at the Disznóko vertical in London, the 2012 Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos is 100% Furmint in terms of Aszu grapes. It has a more complex bouquet than the 2013 with dried honey, grilled walnut, lanolin and yellow flowers, the kind of nose that seduces you, draws you in. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous opening, spicier than the 2013, although it does not quite deliver the same level of concentration and intensity. It gently fans out towards the finish, although I would like a little more depth to develop, so that there is more presence. Tasted September 2016.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Jun 2019 The 2017 Riesling Ice Wine comes in with 190 grams of residual sugar, 9.3 of total acidity and 8.7% alcohol. This was frozen the old-fashioned way — on the vine. All you have to do is smell this to know what comes next. The sugar is obvious, of course, but the fruit is very ripe and concentrated, with the essence of the grape dribbling across the palate. The finish is long. This is spectacular now, so delicious that it will make you swoon. Actually, you might do that just from smelling the ripe apricots. Actually tasting it will be when you add the ooohs and aaahs. As delicious as it is, it is also balanced by good acidity.
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2022 The 2014 Yquem was picked over four tries from 5 September to 30 October, a nine-week picking with 25% of the crop brought in before 25 September to obtain freshness. It has beautifully defined on the nose with dried honey, white peach, almond and chamomile and saffron emerging with time. The palate is beautifully balanced with fine acidity, lively and energetic, building wonderfully in the mouth with great sapidity on the finish. What a bloomin’ gorgeous Yquem. Tasted at the château. (Neal Martin)RP96+96–98 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Apr 2015 The Château Yquem 2014 was picked over 9 weeks this year, with one-quarter of the grapes picked prior to 15 September. It delivers 134 grams per liter residual sugar and 7.3 grams per liter tartaric acid, with a pH 3.60. It has a captivating bouquet (I know… I know… what else were you expecting) But it entrances with its pure, wild honey notes mixed with almond and white chocolate scents, bestowed with beguiling delineation and focus. The palate is very poised with the acidity nigh on perfect. Occasionally an Yquem only reveals its components parts at this early juncture, necessitates conjecture. However the 2014 has a sense of harmony and completeness already, as if the élevage is merely there to usher it on to its finished state. There is undeniably great depth here, perhaps less conspicuous than other vintages because of that silver thread of acidity: notes of lemon sherbet, orange zest, shaved ginger and again, a few “flakes” of white chocolate. It is extremely long with tenderness rather than power on the finish. It’s not quite up there in the rarefied heights of say, the 2001 or 2009, but it is what we call in the trade, “the business.” (Neal Martin)
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Aug 2013 The NV Moscatel Promesa is produced from Moscatel grapes grown in Chipiona and aged in a solera system with an average age of four years. It is bottled with 237 grams of sugar and 17% alcohol. It shows a dark amber color and shows the younger side of Moscatel with a complex nose of orange rind, honeysuckle, chocolate, coffee, flowers and spices, with well integrated aromas. The palate shows a dense, compact wine, full of spices and balsamic flavors, with the orange notes coming back in the long finish, managing to keep some freshness. Drink 2013–2018.

Relatively light, it is laced with apricot and peach nuances, not particularly syrupy, and not as rich in the palate as the nose promises. It is very tasty, but it does thin fast and the fruit acquires a dried apricot nuance with air and warmth. The intense aromatics were its best feature. Drink or hold.RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Feb 2019 The 2018 Riesling Ice Wine, made by winemaker David Breeden, was picked on January 14, 2018, and bottled on July 1, 2018. It comes in with 11.8% alcohol, 184 grams of residual sugar and 7.4 of total acidity. This, the winery is proud to point out, is a “true” ice wine — frozen on the vine, not cryogenically. The difference, they say, “is the level of concentration… prior to fermentation,” which they described as 27.29 Brix for cryogenic versus close to 40 for this wine frozen on the vine. “Additionally, grapes left out in the elements turn brown and have a raisin-like quality… the ‘Maillard Reaction’… converts sugars and amino acids into new compounds which are responsible for new and distinctive flavors…” After that buildup, you expect me to tell you this is dense and concentrated and all that? Sort of. It has plenty of concentration, but we are still in the Finger Lakes. Ice Wine, actually, is often surprisingly fresh and elegant, and not just in the Finger Lakes. It does not seem either thick or cloying, but it has a perfect expression of Riesling that doesn’t fade. It has all the complexity the winery mentioned. It is all about the fruit and character, although it could use a bit more depth. After two days in the fridge, it was brighter, livelier and better, every grape, seemingly, defined and expressive as it sat on the tongue. I bet this ages well, perhaps better than anticipated, but you can enjoy this incarnation right now if you must. It will be better in a couple of years and very different in ten — they are often more interesting with age and gentle oxidation. There were 400 six-packs produced (375-milliliter bottles, to which the price refers).
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th May 2021 The 2020 Riesling Ice Wine was picked on January 20, 2020, at 15 degrees, and bottled in June 2020. It comes in with 11.8% alcohol, 198 grams of sugar and 9.7 of total acidity. This, the winery is proud to point out, is a “true” ice wine — frozen on the vine, not in a freezer. Keeping its sugar under control, this aromatic ice wine offers freshness, not just cloying fruit. It does have a somewhat darker flavor profile, perhaps even a hint of reduction. That should get better. All the while, it seems remarkably concentrated in mouthfeel. This is both delicious and beautifully structured. There’s a long finish, full of flavor and surprisingly refreshing, relatively speaking. It should age quite well, probably better than indicated, but I am always conservative in such things. The price references a half bottle, from which this was tasted. There were 650 six-packs produced.SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2021 Apricot and tangerine notes burst forth in this orange zest–laced dessert wine, finishing with a flash of honeycomb. Instead, it is almost Zen-like upon first acquaintance before revealing its life-affirming mineral aromas and traces of apricot and white peach that remain very subtle and yet tangibly there. The palate is medium-bodied with exceptional balance. There is a real sense of synergy between component parts; nothing out of place, everything focused and succinctly composed, with its trademark sense of thrilling tension on the finish. This is sheer class and a classic Coutet to add to the canon of great recent vintages. Drink 2014–2035.ST93+93–96 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jul/Aug 2012 Pale yellow-gold. Pure, high-toned aromas of apricot, honey, marzipan and sweet spices. A firm core of acidity and strong spice character give verve and definition to the very sweet apricot, peach nectar and marzipan flavors. This very racy and delineated wine boasts excellent intensity to its juicy flavors and finishes very long, rich and spicy, with smooth if assertive tannins. Very Barsac in style.
JD9999 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 6/14/2019 The 2016 Chateau D’Yquem is pure magic and dessert wines don’t get much better. Offering a pale gold color as well as a blockbuster bouquet of honeyed tangerines, tart apricots, liquid rocks, white flowers, and honeysuckle, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, an opulent texture, vibrant acidity, and again, an incredible sense of minerality, despite having no shortage of sweetness or richness. The 2016 is a classic blend of 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon that hit 14.2% alcohol with 135 grams of residual sugar. It’s already complex and approachable yet will keep for 3–4 decades. Breathtakingly wide spectrum of floral honey, exotic fruit (passion fruit, mango and pineapple), caramel and marzipan aromas. But none of this is a jot too much. In fact, the wine is extremely precise and finely nuanced. Wonderful freshness and textural complexity, in spite of the considerable concentration and extravagance. Very suave and sensual finish that goes on and on. Drink or hold. The wine is massive and full-bodied yet neither over the top nor heavy because of good acidity. With intense botrytis as well as a 70–75-second finish, this amazing Sauternes will be its apogee between 2010–2035.

This displays a lovely dynamic of lemon and honey, a creamy richness, subtle suggestions of floral and herbal distillate, and the sort of polish, refinement, and well-judged residual sugar one expects from this great estate. If not terribly complex, it will hopefully serve over the coming decade as a window for many wine enthusiasts (especially as diners) to the unique balance and virtues (not least versatility) of nobly sweet Mosel wine. “My grandfather would have said ‘Too much Beerenauslese? Impossible!’” relates Loosen. “But in fact that’s how it was this year.” (And hard though this would have been to believe only until recently, one cannot rule out there being another such bumper crop of botrytized, mega-Oechsle Riesling.)

Very sweet in the mouth it retains crisp acid to lift the concentrated, liquid raisin flavors. Nicely balanced, it finishes long. RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th Apr 2023 The 2021 Riesling Late Harvest comes in with 47 grams of residual sugar and 9% alcohol. Sugar becomes the keynote here, but this is hardly all that sweet. It’s just young and lush. The sugar on the finish makes the overall presentation a bit nicer, perhaps, than on the other wines in the lineup since it covers up any missing expression of fruit in this rainy vintage. The price is nice too, but you will have to like that sugary edge. There’s not a lot of intensity, but this still has a shot at holding pretty well. If I had a quibble, it did seem to get a little funky in aromatics as it aired out. It still showed well overall, though, so let’s lean up for the moment. There were 1,099 cases produced. RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2019 This wine is dedicated to Roberto Ferrarini, the longtime consulting enologist who worked with Giuseppe Quintarelli and the Quintarelli family until his death in 2014. The beautiful 2007 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico A Roberto (packaged in a 375-millliter bottle) is a stunning and magical creation. The last vintage this estate made a Recioto was in 2004, and at the time of this tasting, there was no future vintage earmarked to follow this bottling. Those of you lucky enough to taste this bottle will be rewarded with carefully crafted aromas of plum and raisin with sweet baking spice, moist earth, campfire ash, fresh espresso and a touch of bitter chocolate. This wine was bottled in 2017 and therefore saw ten years of aging in a normal-sized barrique. The wine shows utter silkiness in terms of texture and is surprising light on its feet despite its 15.5% alcohol. This is a precious collectors’ bottle.VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021 The 2007 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico A Roberto coats the glass with glycerol-like richness while displaying dusty dried flowers, incense, cloves, pine resin, quince and a lifting hint of camphor. It’s silky in texture yet enlivened by bright acidity, as ripe red fruits give way to hints of grilled orange, exotic brown spices and cocoa. While this is certainly sweet, clocking in at 65 grams per liter of residual sugar, it’s also wonderfully balanced and vibrant from start to finish, tapering off remarkably fresh and perfumed with a bitter twang of coffee and dark chocolate. The 2007 is a thrill-ride rendition of Quintarelli Recioto, which may not last through long-term cellaring, but it will wow collectors over the next 10 to 15 years. The Recioto A Roberto is the only wine in the portfolio that undergoes spontaneous fermentation, and it is also matured completely in small oak barrels. As this was the favorite wine and passion project of Roberto Ferrarini, Giuseppe Quintarelli’s enologist who passed in 2014, the family decided to dedicate the 2007 in his honor.
