When it comes to Chardonnay, France (White Burgundy) and California lead the way, though with very different styles. The Chardonnay brands from Burgundy in France tend to be steely and mineral-inflected, while chardonnay brands from California rich, buttery, and often aged in oak (which adds its flavor to the wine). Both styles are immensely popular, and part of the reason that Chardonnay is the most popular white wine in the world.
Because Chardonnay takes so well to many climates, it's grown around the world, with other stellar examples hailing from Chile, Australia, Argentina, and South Africa. It pairs best with seafood such as lobster and many white meats such as pork and poultry.

WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2023 A well-rounded Chardonnay with a great combination of fruit and florals that elevates the overall drinking experience. Enjoy notes of green apple, lemon, lime, just-ripe apricot and mango and a hint of baby’s breath. (Stacy Briscoe)
WE8585 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2023 Extremely over-ripe fruits mix with lots of new oak notes in this full-bodied Chard: green apple and pear, yellow peach, banana, pineapple, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. (Stacy Briscoe)
WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/21 Ripe and chewy, this has a gewurz like spice note to go along with pineapple fruit flavors. The wine finishes with a sour-lemon briskness. For braised white sausages.WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2021 Bright aromas of orange blossom and lily grace the nose of this Chardonnay that’s blended with a tiny amount of Traminette. The palate is ripe and juicy in flavors of pineapple and peach, cinched up by a pleasing textural grip and bright acidity. This is a solid buy for those looking for a fruity yet balanced medium-bodied white.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022 This medium-bodied, barrel-fermented wine offers light, toasted oak aromas, attractive baked apple flavors and accents of butter and vanilla. Good balance keeps it going sip after sip, revealing spice and almond nuances.JD8888 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/2/2022 The 2020 Chardonnay Vintner’s Reserve is a mosaic of classic expressions, with toasted brioche, lemon candy, vanilla bean, and baking spice. WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2022 Initially reductive notes of scorched earth and smoke in this wine dissipate with aeration, revealing pristine yellow apple and Mirabelle. Edged by a crush of oyster shells and salty mineral tones, this invigorating sip finishes on a whisper of white pepper. The wine is just starting to open now but should drink well through 2030. (Anna Lee C. Iijima)VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2022 The 2020 Chablis Vau de Vey 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with wild peach, light quince and flinty aromas, quite complex though I would not describe it as “intense”. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, harmonious, quite sappy towards the finish with decent length. Perhaps like the Butteaux, I would have liked a little more tension on the finish, but it should still give 8–10 years’ drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis. (Neal Martin)
WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2021 Fresh and clean aromas of white-flower blossoms, lime juice and citrus peel show on the nose of this bottling. Broad melon and pome-fruit flavors show on the palate, which is quite salty as well.
WE8585 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2021 Aromas of butter, toast and sawn oak lead to baking-spice flavors and a very rich, indulgent mouthfeel in this intentionally oaky wine. (Jim Gordon)

WE8686 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2022 The name on this bottling says it all. Aromas of caramel apple and butterscotch candy on the nose lead into a viscous palate of oak oil and incense, as the buttery nose turns into a woody palate. (Matt Kettmann)
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2023 With aromas like green apple Jolly Rancher and peach candy—backed by toasted coconut and ground ginger—this is an easy-to-like Chard. The vivid, confected fruit flavors flow through to the palate, where a softly creamy texture is buoyed by a lick of acidity. Balanced, with lovely freshness and length, this is a versatile, food friendly bottling at an affordable price. (Christina Pickard)JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, October 5, 2022 Aromas of pear, rosemary, grapefruit and crushed thyme. Medium-bodied with bright acidity. Fresh and long with a gentle finish. Drink now.
JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, May 24, 2023 Aromas of sliced apples, lemon pith, crushed sage, raw almonds and stones. Medium-bodied, creamy and mild with crisp acidity and a crunchy stone-fruit texture. Flavorful finish. Drink now. (James Suckling)WE8787 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2022 This hedonistic treat is a well-executed take on the buttery-creamy style of Chardonnay. The wine features coconut and warm apple-pie aromas, with a splash of rose water on the nose. Flavors such as lemon butter, spicy cinnamon and caramel apple fill every nook and cranny of the olfactory system. (Michael Alberty)
WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2023 This is a light, lively and easy-to-like Chardonnay, with notes of lemon, lime, chamomile, green apple, wet stone, cheese rind, just-ripe white peach and lime leaf. The palate offers a delicate, and pleasant, effervescence that elevates the freshness of this white even further. (Stacy Briscoe)
WE8585 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2021 This wine is a butter bomb, unleashing lavish melted butter aromas, brown butter and white pepper flavors on a full body. The texture is rich and yes, buttery, too. No added sulfites.
