JD90+90–92 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/28/2018 The old vine cuvée is the 2017 Rasteau Vieilles Vignes, based on 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre that’s brought up in older barrels. Blackberries, toasted spice, smoked earth and licorice notes all flow to a rich, powerful, concentrated Rasteau that has ripe, present tannins and a great finish. It’s certainly going to be an outstanding wine. JD92+92–94 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - September 6, 2019 A smaller production cuvée, the 2017 Maury Sec Serge & Marie checks in as 70% Grenache, 20% Carignan, and 10% Syrah that was brought up in a mix of foudre and used barrels. It’s also the first vintage for new winemaker Marie Verges as well as the first vintage to ever see small barrels, which were purchased from Guigal in the Northern Rhône. Deep purple-colored with a smoky, meaty bouquet of black fruits, licorice, crushed rocks, and black olives, it’s rich, full-bodied, beautifully textured, and layered on the palate, with ripe tannins. This fleshy, expansive barrel sample has tons of potential. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Jun 2020 Named for owner Dan Kravitz’s longtime vigneron (Serge) and the winemaker at the local co-op where the wine is made (Marie), the 2017 Maury Sec Serge & Marie offers subtle notes of leather layered over big black-cherry fruit and hints of garrigue and crushed stone. A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Carignan and 10% Syrah, aged in a combination of foudre and used barrels, it’s full-bodied, supple and expansive in the mouth, where it picks up nuances of raspberries and pencil shavings before finishing with gently dusty tannins and a note of dark chocolate.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2019 This blend of 66% Shiraz and 34% Cinsault smells ripe and juicy upfront, with aromas of blackberry, black plum and cherry. A lovely spicy overlay lends additional depth and interest, expressed through hits of mentholated herbs and bramble. The palate is smooth and supple, with well-integrated tannins that lend a soft structure and some lingering grip to the close.
