VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino wafts up with dusty rose, strawberries and hints of black tea. It’s soft in feel, with a twang of tangerine that gives way to tart cherries and inner cinnamon and clove. This remains nicely energetic while coming across as potent, and it lingers incredibly long. Caparzo found an excellent balance in 2020, and I love the exotic nuances found within. Very nice. (Eric Guido)

It’s texturally deep and pliant, showcasing polished ripe red and hints of blue fruit that are carried effortlessly across a core of juicy acidity. A balanced inner sweetness adds fantastic harmony throughout. The Otto finishes decidedly long and staining with traces of candied lime but also fresh with a reverberation of tension that keeps the mouth watering for more. The nose presents attractive, liqueur-like aromas of strawberry, sour cherry and a hint of damp earth. With fine-grained, slightly reactive tannins, it’s miraculously smooth for the variety.
